Unseasonably high temperatures, in addition to heavy rainfall, put Ashtabula County in a flood warning until midday today.

ASHTABULA — Unseasonably high temperatures, in addition to heavy rainfall, put Ashtabula County in a flood warning until midday today.

According to Ashtabula County Weather Observer for the National Weather Service, Ron Coursen, Ashtabula County has seen 18 inches of snowfall this month to-date.

Temperature highs of 56 on Saturday and 62 on Sunday melted the foot-and-a-half of snow, saturating the ground.

In addition to the melted snow, nearly an inch of rain fell yesterday, according to Weather.com, which led to widespread flooding throughout the area.

The flood warning issued by the Cleveland National Weather Service is in affect until 3:15 p.m. Monday for Ashtabula County, as well as 13 other counties in Northeast Ohio, and two counties in Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service reported in the warning that some flooding was still occuring Sunday afternoon “because of the several inches of rain Saturday and Saturday night. Even though the rain has ended, the ground is saturated, so water is still running off.”
