Austinburg school celebrates Halloween with pageantry

AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — Austinburg Elementary students and their teachers take learning seriously.

The school earned a State Report Card rating of Excellent, but when it’s time to set aside the books for a party, they really know how to have a spooktacular time. On Friday, the hallways were alive with witches, goblins, skeletons and vampires as students donned creative Halloween costumes for a pre-party parade through the hallways and gymnasium.

Principal Kaye Haskins and the teaching staff surprised and delighted students when they arrived for the day wearing a new look as well.

“We like to join in the fun on Halloween and we came up with an idea for a group costume this year”, fourth grade teacher Jennifer Nappi said. “We all dressed up as members of a beauty pageant in formal attire complete with sashes embroidered with our nicknames. Each nickname was funny play on words.”

Principal Kaye Haskins’s sash read Miss Chief. Physical education teacher Nancy Patterson’s sash was embroidered with Miss Fit. Nappi was Miss Read. Third grade teacher Lisa Kozsey’s costume included a clown nose and big specs. Her nickname was Miss Behave. Tutor Cheryl Ramsey was Miss Spelt and Art teacher Kathy Simmons was Miss Drawn.
