Public invited to draft of Ashtabula's streetscape plan unveiling

ASHTABULA — The draft Main Ave. streetscape plan, being prepared by landscape architect Jim McKnight, will be unveiled at a community meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Casa Capelli restaurant, 4641 Main Ave.

The Ashtabula Downtown Development Association (ADDA) and the City of Ashtabula recently retained the landscape architectural firm of McKnight Associates, Ltd., to design a streetscape for Main Avenue from South Park to Lance Corporal Kevin M. Cornelius Memorial Park. McKnight gathered ideas from the community for the streetscape plan at a community planning session on Sept. 23.

The draft plan will include McKnight’s recommendations for the visual elements that would combine to make Main Ave. a more inviting and attractive destination. Such visual elements could include lighting, sidewalks, façade improvements, street furniture, trees, plantings, banners, and improvements to walkways and crossings.

McKnight Associates, Ltd., is a Cleveland-based firm, headed by James McKnight, that created a streetscape for the City of Hudson, as well as a variety of areas in Cleveland.

After the community reviews the draft plan, Mc Knight will finalize the conceptual design, prepare a cost estimate for implementation, and identify sources of funding.
