ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — An 18-year-old Williamsfield Township man was killed Thursday night after his truck struck a tree on Pymatuning Lake Road.

Nathan L. Bates was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

The accident occurred at about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Pymatuning Lake Road and Gibbs Road. Preliminary investigation shows Bates was eastbound, in a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up truck, on Gibbs Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Pymatuning Lake Road, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.

Bates drove across Pymatuning Lake Road and struck two trees. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to reports.

Andover Volunteer Fire Department personnel worked to extricate Bates from the vehicle. He was transported, by Community Care Ambulance Network, to St. Joseph Emergency and Diagnostic Center in Andover. He was then flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth, according to reports.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources Pymatuning State Park Rangers also responded to the scene to assist.

Drug impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash is still under investigation by OHP.
