Artisan Farm Fest is today in Hartsgrove Township

HARTSGROVE TOWNSHIP — — Fruits, vegetables, jams and jellies, eggs, pies and other locally grown and made farm-fresh items are on sale today at the second annual Artisan Farm Fest in the Hartsgrove circle.

The event will represent local food growers, producers and creators of local food products in Ashtabula County and will be held today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Farm Fest director Rhonda McElroy said.

“This year we will be featuring new growers and producers,” she said. “Our goal is to help new entrepreneurs, growers, makers and artists with an outlet for their products,” she said.

Farm Fest is also fast becoming an outlet for local musical talent, McElroy said.

“I hope to encourage the artists and budding musicians to come out and take the stage,” she said. “Maybe we will be the first place they play publicly or it could be a group of teens that just want to have fun singing a song or two.”

Local singer Kathleen Horvath will take the stage at 11 a.m., followed by Bluegrass music by Roger Wade and Friends at noon. The Klein Family will perform from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the Geneva Senior Center band Off Our Rockers will perform throughout the day.

“Bring a chair and a blanket and get comfortable!” McElroy said. “It’s going to be a day of fun and music.”

Farm Fest will also feature Amish buggy rides starting at the Hartsgrove Fire Hall. Rides are $1 per person and will run from 11 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Ashtabula County native and international speaker Mark Sanborn will sign copies of his book.

McElroy said Artisan Farm Fest is about showing off the best of Ashtabula County’s agriculture.

“The Fest is about life here,” she said. “It’s about coming together and supporting each other and introducing others to what we have had here all along.”
