Wedding Wishes a wish come true for its owners in North Kingsville

NORTH KINGSVILLE — It’s not often a new business owner spills tears talking about her enterprise.

But for Dawn Dale, her new enterprise, Wedding Wishes, is a culmination of years of hard work. A business she has operated out of her home now occupies a building at routes 20 and 193 in North Kingsville.

For a long time, Dawn and her husband, Buddy, had talked about putting her home business into a different location. “We had been praying about it, but nothing had come through,” she said.

A drive through North Kingsville changed everything. Passing through the busy intersection, the pair noticed the building was empty. A short time after inquiring about the address, Buddy was painting walls and Dawn was setting up shelves.

“An opportunity just came along,” Buddy said. “The storefront has been a blessing.”

Dawn agreed. “I believe it’s a gift from God,” she said.

Wedding Wishes is basically a one-stop wedding and special-occasion planning center that opened in February. Flowers, silk arrangements, balloons, cakes, photography and other trappings can be created by Dale. Dresses and formals are available by consignment and tuxedoes can be arranged through Tuxedo Junction.

The business gives Dale a chance to flex her artistic muscles. “I love the creative end of things,” she said.

A specialty are her candy bouquets, fashioned from any wrapped sweet treat or bagged snack you can imagine. One can be whipped up for any occasion, Dawn Dale said.

The one-stop concept makes it easy for the client to coordinate an event and guarantees decorations and colors will mesh throughout, she said. “You know all the flowers, ribbons — everything — will match,” she said.

Several people have already noticed Wedding Wishes’ high-profile location and have visited or arranged a free consultation, Dale said.

“We’ve booked a few weddings,” she said. “People are noticing the displays.”

Dawn Dale began dabbling in special events planning and preparation more than 20 years ago, baking cakes and making decorations for family and friends. From that modest beginning, she and her husband are now North Kingsville’s newest merchants. The thought makes Dale a little weepy.

“This is what it’s like when dreams come true,” she said, dabbing at happy tears.
