GENEVA — There is still time to contribute to the annual Community Christmas Card.

Since 1970, community members have contributed $260,000 to purchase medical equipment for the ICCU at Geneva Medical Center by adding their names to the Community Christmas Card.

The Community Christmas Card is a unique way to send a holiday greeting. Instead of sending individual Christmas cards, the community is encouraged to make donations in any amount to the Community Christmas Card. The donors’ names are published in the card and a two-page greeting printed in the Christmas Eve Star Beacon.

Monday is the deadline for contributions.

This year, the Community Christmas Card donations will be used to purchase an Edwards Critical Care System — EV1000 — Clinical platform for hemodyamic monitoring.

Director of Critical Care for Geneva Medical Center Amitabh Goel said the machine “is an advanced minimally invasive approach to monitoring the heart by measuring the continuous cardiac output and stroke volume.”

“It will allow monitoring of high risk patients with co-morbidities, guide volume management, guide inotropic therapy, assess real time effects of positive pressure ventilation and optimize effects of heart rate and stroke volume. It is designed for use with high- risk patients in both medical and surgical settings,” he said.

Goel said the Community Christmas Card makes a major difference in the lives of patients.

“As always, we continue to be grateful to the fund for their generosity and charitable endeavors that allow us to give back to our community,” he said. “The continued tradition of generosity of the Christmas Card fund and of all the devoted individuals involved with it will continue to touch the lives of the countless patients that come to the Critical Care Unit. This new piece of technology will allow us to continue to serve our patients in the community with the most sophisticated care available.”

Donations can be mailed or given to any committee member or given at Geneva-area banks, including Andover Bank, USBank, First Merit Bank and KeyBank in Geneva. Donations can also be sent to any committee member.
