Funding allocated for full-time TAG deputy

JEFFERSON — Commissioners will allocate funding for a full-time deputy to work with the TAG Law Enforcement Task Force, which operates in Ashtabula and Trumbull counties.

TAG ran short on money earlier this year and requested funding from the board to help pay for seven to eight months of the Ashtabula County deputy’s salary. TAG ideally wants at least two deputies from the county to work with TAG. Correspondence from TAG to the board indicated that it is  requesting in its grant application the funding for a full-time officer from Ashtabula County. TAG asked commissioners to fully fund the second position, about $70,000 annually.

The board also will need to provide a vehicle, liability insurance and fuel for the officer.

Commissioners agreed to pick up the entire cost of one officer as an appropriation from the sheriff’s budget.

Trumbull County provides three to four officers to the drug enforcement effort.
