ASHTABULA — Kardohely’s Restaurant is looking forward to having a new neighbor, owner Richard Rogers said Thursday.
No papers have been signed yet, but Rogers feels confident Dollar General will build a new store just east of his restaurant at 1708 W. Prospect Road, at the site of Northeastern Carpet Cleaners (formerly the Print Shoppe).
“It looks pretty good,” he said. “I’ll be happy to have them as a neighbor.”
On Wednesday, Dollar General store officials confirmed they are interested in the property.
Rogers said he will sell an easement 30 feet east of his restaurant to the dollar store, but his restaurant will remain intact.
As a good neighbor, Dollar General also will do some work to his parking lot.
“My customers are asking if I’m going to sell,” Rogers said. “We aren’t selling the restaurant.”
Rogers and his wife, Joanne, have owned Kardohely’s for 21 years, he said.
They will be happy to have the additional lighting from the new store, he said.
In late February, Ashtabula residents welcomed a new, bigger Dollar General at 1511 Lake Ave., replacing the old one in the Ashtabula Plaza at 2203 Lake Ave.
