Andover Twp. woman killed in one vehicle crash

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP —  A 58-year-old township woman was killed when her vehicle drove off the west side of Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road, went airborne and landed in a wooded area adjacent to a small creek, according to the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The name of the victim was not released Thursday evening pending the notification of family members, said Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator James Baehr.

“(A) car (was) headed south on Stanhope Kelloggsville Road, drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and vaulted off,” said Sgt. Chris Thayne of the OHP. The crash occurred several miles south of Mells Road.

Thayne said there was one female occupant of the car and it appeared no other vehicles were involved.

The crash occurred around 5:53 p.m. and the road was closed for several hours as troopers investigated and a tow truck was called to pull the vehicle from the wooded area where it landed.

“Somebody came up on it (the crash). As far as we know no one saw the crash,” Thayne said.

Baehr said a 58-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. “We don’t know if she had a medical event or lost control of the car,” he said.

Thayne said the vehicle went airborne and flew 150 to 200 feet through the air, nose-dived to the ground and flipped on to its roof.

Baehr said the woman was taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Exam-iner’s office for an autopsy. He said preliminary results of the autopsy should be available today.
