ASHTABULA — Whether your diet needs a complete overhaul or you just need some quick food tips, nutrition counseling can be a great benefit to your health.

The Ashtabula County YMCA is offering a new program free to members — fitness and nutrition counseling, said CEO Trevor Sprague.

“Our one-on-one counseling teaches techniques for energy and better health for pregnant women, menopausal women, seniors, diabetics, weight loss, weight gain, meal planning, and more,” Sprague said. “It will help our members set goals.”

The first appointment is 30 minutes, followed by unlimited 15 minute appointments.

“The meetings provide accountability that so many people need,” he said. “These coaching appointments help people accomplish what they come here to do.”

The Ashtabula County YMCA is a non-profit organization, offering financial assistance to people who can not afford to purchase a membership.

To help people benefit from the Y, the Ashtabula County YMCA is offering 50 percent off the joiner fee through Jan. 31. The Y offers a variety of programs to help achieve greater health and well-being, including exercise classes, yoga, swim lessons, a youth bowling league, baton classes and strength training. There are racquet ball courts, a pool, a gymnasium, a steam room and a sauna.
