Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County to hold 7th Annual Men Who Cook

ASHTABULA — Plans for the 7th Annual Men Who Cook event are under way at Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County. This event raises funds for the Emergency Assistance Program, which provides shelter, utility, prescription and food assistance throughout the county.

Men Who Cook is based upon the premise that some of Ashtabula’s most famous faces will prepare their favorite dish for guests and female “celebrity” judges to sample. Awards will be given in various categories to the chefs who have delighted the taste buds of the judges. A People's Choice award will be presented to the chef who garners the most votes from our guests.

Last year’s event featured area chefs creating specialty dishes such as Dr. Edward Wiese’s Corn and Cheddar Chowder, which received the judges’ selection for the best overall dish.  Father Raymond Thomas and Vern Kirkingburg, received the People’s Choice Award for their Broccoli Pancotto and Baked Chicken. Other 2013 chefs hoping to win include Bob Billman, Dr. Jeffrey Brodsky, Sandy Deak, John Decker, Bob Dille, Dr. Tom DiSalvatore, Tom Fleming, Jim Frustere, Michael Gardner, Don Holahan, Bill Howe, Ryan Loncar, Larry Licata, Dustin Majewski, Tony Orlando, Arnie Peet, Nick Perkoski, Dr. Jerome Privitera, Dr. Elliott Rice, Frank and John Roskovics, Jeff Scribben, Tony Silva, Steven Steele, A. Andrejs Teilans, and Mark Timonere.

Judges include Diana Brook, Sister Maureen Burke, Deborah Newcomb, Susan Stocker, Mary Pepperney, and Debbi Waring.  Chromaflo, Carington Park, Delta Railroad Construction and The Nassief Auto Family are sponsoring the event at the Executive Chef level.

The 7th Annual Men Who Cook will be held on Jan. 26 at The Bernard Vacca Mount Carmel Community Center from 6:30 to 9 p.m..  Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased at the Catholic Charities office at 4200 Park Avenue, Third Floor, Ashtabula.

For more information on this event, contact Lynn Zalewski at the Catholic Charities office at 440-992-2121.
