Ashtabula man suffers leg wound in home invasion

ASHTABULA — A city man received a nonlife-threatening wound to the leg when he was shot during a home invasion Saturday night.

The shooting happened at about 10:06 p.m. at 232 Marion Drive in the downtown area, near South Park.

The victim told police he and his friends were inside the house when three masked men forcibly entered the home and demanded money, according to police reports.

The gunmen pistol-whipped the victims and shot one in the leg until they were satisfied with the amount of money they received, according to police reports.

The gunmen then ran off with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

The victims were transported by ambulance to Ashtabula County Medical Center, where they were treated and later released, reports show.

The incident is under investigation and anyone with information should call the Ashtabula Police Department, Chief Robert Stell said.

“We are following up on one lead,” he said.

City police have been called for several shootings in the past few months, including a fatal on Sept. 29 at a west side home. That’s where Dawaun Davis, 22, of Youngstown died of a single gunshot to the neck, according to the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office. That case also remains under investigation, Stell has said.
