Conneaut High School will present the Pultizer Prize-winning drama “The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds” tonight and Saturday at the CHS cafeteria.
The curtain rises at 7 p.m. both evenings. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults and will be available at the door.
The 1964 play, written by Paul Zindel, is the story of a dysfunctional family led by bitter, angry matriarch Beatrice Hunsdorfer and the impact of her corrosive behavior on daughters Ruth and Matilda. Ruth, is a pretty but highly strung girl subject to convulsions; while the younger daughter, Matilda — plain and almost pathologically shy — has an intuitive gift for science. For a school project, “Tillie” subjects marigolds to radiation, and the results of the experiment serve as a metaphor for her life.
“Gamma Rays” is directed by Emily Wacker, a teacher at CHS.
