Pymatuning Area Chamber wraps up 31st Lake Fest

ANDOVER — The Pymatuning Area Chamber of Commerce wrapped up another successful Lake Fest Sunday marking 31 years of family fun.

The event is the chamber’s largest fundraiser, and the biggest event in the community. Lake Fest patrons travel from all over for the festival which draws a substantial crowd to the Andover area each year.

Pymatuning Area Chamber of Commerce President Pam Harting said the event is good for the local economy. All of the money raised at the festival goes back into the community, she said.

Carolyn Parker, of Erie, Pa., sat at a picnic table Sunday and watched her granddaughter Lilly Morris Aldrich, 3, play in the sand. Lilly and her family traveled from Sherman, PA.

“I though the festival was really nice this year,” Parker said. “There was a big crowd (Saturday).”

Parker, who has a place at Holiday Camplands, said she usually comes to the festival every year.

“I really liked it this year,” she said.

Susan Harubin, of Parma, said she appreciates the low cost of the festival.

“There’s a lot of activities to do and it’s affordable,” she said. “It’s not like what we are used to at home.”

The festival featured live entertainment all day as well as a hula hoop contest, frog jumping contest, watermelon eating contest and a water balloon and hot potato contest for the kids. Inflatable activities kept the kids occupied and adults enjoyed artisan demonstrations. Pontoon boat rides were available for the family and there were plenty of other activities including face painting, kids’ ceramics and food concessions. Sunday’s festivities came to a close with a performance by Good Question.
