Michigan Primary garners distinction of Reward School

ASHTABULA — After Ashtabula Area City Schools Superintendent learned the district scored in the top 8 percent of Ohio Schools for the value-added component of the state report card, believed the celebration would end.

However, there was more to come — Colucci received word from the state of Ohio that Michigan Primary earned the distinction of being a “Reward School.”

Michigan Primary was classified as a “High Progress School of Honor, and one of 53 schools in the state to receive this award.

To qualify for this honor, a school must be a Title 1 school that is making significant and substantial gains in student performance in reading and math.

“When you consider that in the state of Ohio there are over 800 districts, and within each district are numerous schools, this award is not only humbling but a testament to the valuable education AACS students are receiving,” Michigan Principal Janie Carey said.

Colucci said, “Proud is an understatement. Our schools are doing incredible things. I've said it repeatedly, ‘It's wonderful to see our progress acknowledged by the state of Ohio.’”
