A Rome Township man was arrested late Wednesday night after he reportedly blasted his TV set with a pistol while two young children watched, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies have charged Daniel Michelson, 32, of Route 45, with endangering children and using weapons while intoxicated, according to a report.
Around 11:37 p.m., deputies received a 911 call from the man’s wife, who said the man discharged weapons in the house and then left in a vehicle. Deputies quickly found a car matching the description parked at a nearby tavern. Deputies found Michelson inside, preparing to buy a drink, according to a report.
At the time of his arrest, Michelson was carrying a large knife, deputies said. He told deputies a shotgun and pistol were in the trunk of the vehicle.
Back at the house, the wife told deputies she asked her husband to turn off the TV and help prepare two children for bed. Michelson grabbed a pistol and fired an unknown number of rounds into the TV, then picked up a shotgun and blasted a wall twice, according to a report. A 9-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl were in the room where all the shots were fired, deputies said.
As the woman placed a 911 emergency call, Michelson smashed a chair and guitar in the kitchen, she told deputies.
