Ashtabula is advertising for a new deputy auditor

ASHTABULA — City Council at its meeting Monday night approved posting the position of deputy auditor.

Deputy Auditor Karen Jury plans to retire Jan. 7 after 26 years with the city.

“We need to give City Auditor Dana Pinkert an opportunity to organize her department,” Council President J.P. Ducro IV said. “This would give the new deputy auditor time to train with Mrs. Jury, as well.”

Jury filled in as auditor for 16 months after City Auditor Michael Zullo unexpectedly retired in January 2011.

City Council hired Pinkert in April 2012.

Pinkert left the city of New Buffalo, Mich., where she served as finance director since March 2011. She previously worked for the Village of Walton Hills, Ohio, as accountant/tax auditor/business manager; in Madison as fiscal officer and in Geneva, where she got her start as a finance clerk.

She’s a native of Geneva.

In other business,

• Council approved the city manager’s request for an ordinance to enter into an agreement with the Ohio Department of Development for the 2012 Formula Grant, in an amount not to exceed $121,000.

The city will use the money to buy a sewer camera, parking deck lighting and demolition of blighted buildings.

• Council approved the city manager’s request for an ordinance to declare certain computer equipment and furniture partitions obsolete.

“I’m cleaning old stuff out in City Hall,” City Manager Jim Timonere said.

• Timonere said Halloween trick or treat will be 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31.
