Masked man robs Ashtabula resident

Star Beacon

ASHTABULA — Police are searching for a masked man involved in an armed robbery at a Glover Drive apartment Tuesday, police said.

Around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a woman’s call from the 3100 block of Glover Drive, saying she was robbed at gunpoint in her apartment.

The woman said a tall, thin man with a ski mask knocked on her door. She let him in because it was cold outside so she didn’t think much of the ski mask. But, once inside, he pulled out a gun and demanded money from her.

The woman said she gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled on foot, running toward Michigan Avenue apartments, police said.

The woman described the man as Hispanic or light skin African American man.

Police searched the area of Michigan Avenue and Willow Arms trailer park, to no avail.

This is the second such robbery to occur on Glover Drive in two weeks.

Two Hispanic men knocked on the door of a home in the 3000 block of Glover Drive two weeks ago. When the resident opened the door, two men were standing there — one donning a ski mask.

“The men said they were selling shampoo and toothpaste,” Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell said. “Then they demanded money.”

When the resident refused, one of the men pulled out a gun, he said.

A struggle ensued and the men eventually ran away, according to police reports.

No one was injured.
