County officials are taking steps financially, to prepare for what is to come in 2015.
Ashtabula County Commissioners, Monday, approved the transfer of $250,000 from the general fund, into the county’s budget stabilization fund.
County Administrator Janet Discher said the measure will prepare the county for the future.
In 2015, there will be 27 payrolls and the county will also be faced with a 10 percent retrospective rating payment for workers compensation, she said.
“There is no way around it,” she said.
Discher said by utilizing the fund every year, the county will be better prepared when things like this come up.
County Commissioner Dan Claypool said if the $250,000 isn’t transferred this year, the county will have to take $500,000 out of the general fund next year, which will have more of a financial impact on the county.
Commissioners also tied up some loose ends to balance the books as Monday was the last meeting of the year.
Additional appropriations of $5,940 for the Drug Task Force were approved as it was ending the year in the negative because of the way its reimbursements come in, Discher said.
Commissioners also approved the transfer of $52,191 from the general fund to the bonded debt fund and $52,191 from the general fund to the permanent improvement fund.
