Bikers to visit covered bridges in charity run Saturday

Joni Tackett closes her eyes for a second when she and husband Randy ride their motorcycle over the long wooden planks of a covered bridge.

The tires rumble underneath them as the slanting sun sneaks through the beams of the bridges.

The Tacketts, along with other members of the Concerned Motorcycle Riders of Ohio, will visit several covered bridges on Saturday for the annual Covered Bridge Motorcycle Run.

The covered bridge run is the last motorcycle adventure of the year for the organization. Bikers will tour the historic covered bridges of Ashtabula County. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. at Grand River Manor on Mechanicsville Road. The first bike leaves at noon. Tickets are $10 per person and they ride rain or shine.

The event includes a dice run, 50/50 raffle, lottery/money tree and door prizes. Food and music will be served at end of the run.

Joni Tackett said CMRO will donate all proceeds Holiday Angels Loving Others, Birthcare, Homesafe and the Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry.

Tackett said the covered bridge run is one of the biggest of the year for CMRO.

“With good weather this is our most beautiful run of the year,” she said. “We visit at least five bridges and sometimes more.”

Don’t have a motorcycle? Ride along anyway, Tackett said.

“All vehicles are welcome,” she said. “Come and have a good time for a good cause.”

CMRO President Ed Soden said the club (region 13) is always looking for more members to help plan runs.

To join CMRO, contact Soden at 576-1275 or search Facebook for CMRO Region 13.
