ASHTABULA — A man was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center early Saturday evening after a shooting on West 36th St., said Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell.

“It was a shooting on West 36th Street between Lake and Station  (avenues),” Stell said. He said it occurred in the 400 to 500 block and there was only one victim.

Stell said he did not know the age of the victim or the exact address of the house.

“He was shot three times in the leg and mid-section,” Stell said. He said the injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to those on the scene.

Late Saturday night there were no specific suspects. “The victim is not cooperating, so we don’t have a lot to go on,” Stell said.

He said the police have some leads they are following up on and more could be known by today.

“They have recovered the shell casings that were found at the scene,” Stell said.

When police arrived on the scene there was a female companion with the victim at the house. “She is not cooperating either,” Stell said of the woman.

The victim was transported to the Ashtabula County Medical Center and then flown by helicopter to Cleveland around 6 p.m.

Police cleared the shooting site by around 7 p.m.
