Star Beacon announces first annual Christmas Display Contest

Proceeds to benefit Newspapers in Education

Break out your lights, decorations, and ornaments; the Star Beacon’s first annual Christmas Display Contest begins next week.

Contest details will be published in the Tuesday edition of the Star Beacon. Families and businesses are encouraged to put up their very best outdoor decorations to show Christmas spirit.

Star Beacon Publisher Jim Frustere said, “We’re announcing our contest to celebrate a wonderful Christmas tradition by showcasing the creative decorating talents of the people who live in our community and to have some fun.”

Entry to the contest is free and entry forms will be available in the print and online editions of the Star Beacon. To enter, simply fill out the entry form and submit a photograph of the outdoor holiday decorations. Completed forms may be submitted online, by mail or in person at the Star Beacon.

The deadline for entries is Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. in person and 11:59 p.m. online. There are two categories for display entries: residential and business/organization. There will be first-, second- and third-place winners for each category.

Residential display winners will receive the following prizes: First place will receive $200 cash, a commemorative plaque and a free one-year subscription to the Star Beacon; Second place will receive $100 cash, a runner-up certificate and a free six-month subscription to the Star Beacon; and Third place will receive $50 cash, a certificate and a free three-month subscription to the Star Beacon.

Business/ organization winners will receive the following prizes: First place will receive a $400 value advertising package, a commemorative plaque and a free one-year subscription to the Star Beacon; Second place will receive a $200 value advertising package, a runner-up certificate and a free six-month subscription to the Star Beacon; and Third place will receive a $100 value advertising package, a certificate and a free three-month subscription to the Star Beacon.

Preliminary voting will begin Dec. 11 when all contest entries will be published in print and online. Voting ballots will also be in print and online. Each vote costs 50 cents and proceeds will benefit the Star Beacon’s Newspapers-In-Education program.

Preliminary voting will run until Dec. 16 and voting on the finalists will be from Dec. 18 to Dec. 23.

Winners will be announced in the Star Beacon’s Christmas edition Dec. 25.
