KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP — A 79-year-old Kingsville Township woman was killed Friday afternoon when her vehicle collided with a truck on Route 84 near Happy Hearts School at the Dibble Road intersection.

Sara A. Dianna, 79, was declared dead at the scene after the crash with a commercial truck. The truck was driven by Stephan G. Strmac Sr., 63, of Geneva, who was traveling west on Route 84, Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator Tom Despenes said.

“Preliminary investigation shows (Ms.) Dianna pulled from Dibble Road into the path of (the truck),” according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release.

The OHP  said the crash occurred at 12:55 p.m. at the intersection of Dibble Road and Route 84. Strmac received minor injuries, but was not transported to a medical facility.

Employees at the Happy Hearts School attempted to treat the victim and helped guide traffic through the school’s parking lot after the crash.

Strmac was unable to avoid Dianna’s vehicle and struck it, knocking both vehicles on to the north side of Route 84 where the truck sheared off a utility pole, according to OHP. Dianna was wearing a seat belt.

Despenes said toxicology tests will be performed as a matter of standard procedure.

The Kingsville Fire Department also responded to the scene.
