CONNEAUT — Chuck and Christopher Randall, father and son, met members of their newly expanded family at a special reception Tuesday night at the Villa at the Lake, a Conneaut assisted-living center.
The Randalls, of Randall Residence, based in Lawton, Mich., recently purchased the 10-year-old facility and spent last evening meeting residents, their family and staff.
“We’re small-town people ourselves, and we like this community,” Chuck Randall said prior to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the transition.
The Randalls own and operate assisted-living centers at three Ohio locations — Mayfield Heights, Mentor and Cambridge — as well as White Oaks, Mich., said Jacquie Hummer, the Villa’s executive director.
Talks began almost 13 months ago, Chuck Randall said. The Villa, home to 81 residents, was purchased from the original investors, Hummer said.
“It’s a big event for us,” she said. “It’s something we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.”
Residents will see some improvements very soon, Hummer said. New carpeting will be installed, upgrades are planned for the special-care wing, and administrative offices will be relocated closer to the residents.
Randall Residence plans to spend $250,000 on improvements, Chuck Randall said.
The new owners said the Villa dovetailed perfectly with their philosophy.
“There are certain standards we like,” he said. “Our values mesh. We will be in synch very quickly. The Villa is a special jewel in the community.”
