Emergency units swap vehicles By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — Northwest Ambulance District and the Geneva-on-the-Lake Fire Department will make a for-keeps swap of a large trailer and an ambulance, village Fire Chief Tim Mills said.
“We have this trailer that is too big for any of our trucks to comfortably pull, and NAD has an ambulance that is better than our second-out rig,” Mills said. “They need our trailer and we need an ambulance, so we will make an even swap.” The 1995 ambulance has several upgrades and will replace the village’s 1984 ambulance, Mills said. The old ambulance was the cause of some mechanical frustration for the department. It’s gasoline engine was considered a liability as a rescue vehicle, Mills said. “Really, the new ambulance will be just as good as our first-out ambulance,” Mills said. “We are really happy with the deal.” The ambulance has been stripped of its NAD decals and the new village signage is ready for the vehicle, Mills said. I thought this was cute “for-keeps” takesies backsies but you can take it out if you don’t like it. Mills said the fire department also hopes to sell an old police rescue boat at auction next year when the village police department unloads two used police cruisers. “We hope to use that money to buy a new, smaller trailer to replace the large one we traded to NAD,” he said.
