Anthony Mareda, 36, was arrested Wednesday at 235 W. Main St. on the felony warrant, though he denies the house is his official place of residence, Geneva police reports show. Mareda served 15 months in the Lorain Correctional Institution for gross sexual imposition involving a female child in 1998. Mareda was placed on one-year probation in 2006 for failure to update his status with the sex offender registry. Mareda’s most recent violation of the offender registration requirement could net him another nine months in jail, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court records show. A Level 1 offender, Mareda must register his place of residence every time he moves for the rest of his life. The Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) requires anyone found guilty of sex crimes, including rape and sexual abuse, to register. The registration lists sex offenders on the state website http://www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us. Mareda then registered his residence in Ashtabula and then at 610 Sherman St. in Geneva, but failed to register his address after he was evicted, Geneva police reports show. A felony warrant for Mareda’s arrest was issued in August, Place said. Geneva officers began to search for Mareda last week. Following a trail of past residences, the officers interviewed Mareda’s former landlord and his employer. Mareda was employed at a local restaurant until he took medical leave for a broken leg, Geneva police reports show. Geneva police records indicated Mareda was the passenger in a traffic stop in May 2007 and eventually found him at the listed address of the driver of that vehicle, Geneva police reports show. Geneva police reports show Mareda could face charges locally for living within 1,000 feet of a school, which is a violation of the Ohio Revised Code, though no charges have been filed in Ashtabula County, Western County court records show.
