ANDOVER — Pymatuning Valley High School multimedia students have gained yet another claim to fame.
Senior Evan Gruskiewicz and 2008 graduates Kayla Consla and Jen DiBell were honored by SportsTime Ohio, the cable home of the Cleveland Indians, during the networks first BUMP awards. Entries were submitted last spring and the winners were announced Friday, said Scott Wludyga, multimedia instructor.
Gruskiewicz won the award for Best Editing Craft in which he used advanced techniques to clone himself three times on the screen in his commercial for the PV yearbook. Consla and DiBell won the award for Best Promotional Writing. Their commercial promoted the importance of recycling, Wludyga said.
Schools from all over northeast Ohio competed in a variety of sports and non-sports categories. The BUMP awards recognize excellence in high school media production, he said.
“These students are the next generation of (television) producers, directors and on-air talent,” said Al Pawlowski, who hosted the awards show. “From what we’ve seen from this small sampling, the future of our business is very bright.”
The multimedia program at PV is a satellite program of the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School.
“Our students are doing the same things media professional do everyday,” Wludyga said.
The awards show will be broadcast again Dec. 10 at 7:30 a.m. and Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.
