ROCK CREEK — Cub Scout Pack 155 of Rock Creek is embracing historical roots by reclaiming their original building.
The Log Cabin, located next to the Rock Creek Public Library on High Street, was given to the Cub Scouts by a repealed ordinance on Monday’s regular village council meeting.
“The Boy Scouts built the cabin in 1929,” said Council Member Paul Benak. “Many years ago the scouts gave up their lease and the cabin became village property.”
The cabin, which has no heat or plumbing, served as village offices until the Village Hall, located at 3081 W. Water St., was built in 1992.
“The Cub Scouts don’t mind roughing-it, and they plan to use the cabin for meetings and events,” Benak said. “According to the repealed ordinance, the scouts will just have to pay the low monthly electric bill.”
Cub Scout Pack 155 plans to improve the cabin inside and out, said Samantha Brandt, council member and assistant den leader for the Rock Creek Cub Scouts.
“We plan to replace some windows and repair the roof, as well as maintain the lawn,” Brandt said.
The Rock Creek Cub Scouts have been very active in their community with food drives and lending a helping hand to needy residents.
“We just completed filling baskets for four area families for Thanksgiving,” Brandt said. “We teach the boys to extend kindness and respect to our citizens.”
