Judge to speak at NAACP scholarship banquet Star Beacon ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Judge Alfred Mackey will speak tonight at the Ashtabula County NAACP’s 52nd annual Freedom Fund and Scholarship Banquet.
The banquet focuses on raising scholarship money for area students, said Adam Holman, past president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and a large catered dinner will be served at 7 p.m., at the Grotto Hall on Route 20. Last year, Elder Emory Moore, executive director of Building Youth for Society, welcomed more than 100 people who attended the event. Many local community leaders always attend the dinner, Holman said. Tickets are $40 per person. For more information, call 576-5132 or 997-4706.
