SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Unlike a good neighbor, a vehicle crashed through the window of the Brian Sharp State Farm Insurance Agency at 2128 W. Prospect Ave., late Tuesday afternoon.
“We have a mishap with the accelerator pedal,” said Saybrook Fire Capt. David Whitaker.
The elderly driver and passenger of a Buick Century escaped injury when their car careened through the front window and came to rest inside the business. They both were wearing their seat belts.
Amazingly, two of the agency’s customer service representatives were not injured, Whitaker said.
“It was startling,” said Pam DiGiacomo who was talking on the phone to a customer at the time of the crash, alongside co-worker Debbie Thompson.
“We were both on the phone with our backs to the window when I heard this terrific crash. I turned around and saw this car and smoke,” DiGiacomo said.
The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash, and the Saybrook Fire Department responded to the scene. No one was transported to the hospital.
