ROCK CREEK — The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners will use the County Engineer’s Department for snowplowing and removal services again this winter.
Commissioners passed the resolution approving the contract during their agenda meeting Tuesday evening. County Administrator Janet Discher said the engineer has provided the service in prior years and, by doing so, saves the county a substantial amount of money.
It will cost the county up to $11,000 for the service, which will be provided from Nov. 1 through April 2010. The fee is $333 per month plus $150 for each trip made. The contract covers the courthouse complex, Agricultural Center, sheriff’s garage and the main midway of the fairgrounds.
Discher said the work does not have to go to competitive bidding because it is under $25,000.
In other actions, commissioners:
n Authorized posting unused office equipment and supplies from the commissioners office to the county’s auction Web site (ashtabulacountyohioauctions.com);
n Accepted the resignation of John Palo from the Ashtabula County Airport Authority, effective Nov. 1. Commissioners are accepting applications from individuals interesting in serving out his term, which is set to expire in February 2011. Applications are available in the clerk’s office;
n Approved the proposal of County Recorder Judith A. Barta for the acquisition and maintenance of micrographic and other equipment, and contract services. A portion of filing fees will fund the purchases, as has been done in the past;
n Ordered publication of public hearings for the 2010 budget requests by the Ashtabula County Juvenile Court and Probate Court (1 p.m. Nov. 2), Veterans Services Commission (11:30 a.m. Nov. 5) and Common Pleas Court (8:30 a.m. Nov. 10). Hearings will be held in the commissioners room of the Old Courthouse; and
n Approved sewer and water builders licenses for Great Lakes Crushing of Eastlake and Severino Construction of Ashtabula, through Dec. 31.
