KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP — A Cemetery Road man was injured Monday afternoon when a truck on which he was working fell on his chest, said Kingsville Township Fire Chief Neal Stewart.
“When we got on the scene we had a mid-50s man pinned underneath a truck,” Stewart said. He said the call came in about 4:20 p.m.
“Apparently he was putting a rear end on it and it slipped,” Stewart said of the incident that occurred at 5940 Cemetery Road.
The man was later identified as a Mr. Bilbrey, his first name was not available, officials said.
Seven firefighters from Kingsville responded with a squad from North Kingsville and Community Care assisting as well. “We jacked the truck up off him,” Stewart said. It took 10 minutes to free him and take Bilbrey to an awaiting ambulance.
A medical helicopter landing site was set up at Kingsville Elementary School but the site was moved to Conneaut Medical Center after he was freed quicker than anticipated, Stewart said.
The helicopter flew Bilbrey to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., where he was treated in the trauma center and admitted to a regular room at about 8 p.m., hospital officials said.
Stewart said the victim was conscious at the scene of the accident, but having difficulty breathing. Conneaut Heavy Rescue was called but the call was canceled when they were able to free Bilbrey with the manpower available, Steward said.
