ANDOVER — Cold temperatures didn’t destroy the spirit of the Andover Fall Festival, organizers said Saturday afternoon.
The event kicked off with live entertainment at 10 a.m. followed by a parade that was well attended, said festival committee member Sheila Michaels.
“We had a new addition to the parade. We had celebrity pooper scoopers,” Michaels said.
“They got to follow the horses,” Michaels said of Jason Hockran, vice president of H & H Enterprises and Myra Brown, village council president, who “won” the chance in a competition with three other local business representatives and politicians.
The pair followed the horses with rolling Dumpsters and shovels, Michaels said.
“They were in Hazmat suits but apparently they only had one donation,” she said with a laugh.
The steady beat of Compass Rose rose through a mid-afternoon breeze on the Andover Commons.
Ruth Kotila, of Northfield, was amidst a small crowd of people listening to the band wrapped in a blanket.
Bob Twohey, of Compass Rose, gave a shout out to Kotila.
“That’s one person that comes to every show we do,” he said with a laugh. Ruth’s son, the Andover village solicitor, plays in the band.
Michaels said the weather probably affected attendance but she was happy with the amount of people who came.
The timing of the festival, in it’s third year, will always be a bit problematic with fall weather in northeastern Ohio.
“Last year the weather was perfect,” she said.
Michaels said the purpose of the event is to get people into town and celebrate fall.
