ANDOVER — The 2nd annual Andover Fall Festival played host to an overwhelming crowd Saturday as the warm October weather brought folks outdoors.
The festival, held at Andover Square, truly provided something for everyone who attended, said Susan Hill, Andover Public Library director. It was the perfect weekend to hold the festival, she said, especially with the warm weather.
“We didn’t mind doing it the same weekend as the Covered Bridge Festival because people are all around the county at the bridges,” she said.
The festival featured a slew of activities for children including face painting, pumpkin decorating, a hay maze and the hit of the festival, a giant “bouncy house” in the shape of a tiger.
“We started out with 30 pumpkins and ran out and had to go out and get more,” she said.
By the time the festival was nearing the end, volunteers had gone through 90 pumpkins.
Not only was there plenty for the kids to do, but young adults and adults had plenty to choose from as well including corn hole for the guys, crafters for the ladies and entertainment for everyone, she said.
Funtime Entertainment provided karaoke for the event which seemed to be a hit with all age groups.
“The karaoke really pleased the young adults,” Hill said. “It’s really entertaining.”
Local musicians also provided entertainment throughout the day.
“I don’t think we’ve ever seen a festival that appeals to every age group,” she said. “It’s just a community event for the enjoyment of everybody.”
The event was sponsored by the Andover Area Chamber of Commerce and coordinators worked to involve various community agencies. The Boy Scouts were represented as well as St. Joseph Hospital, which put together a gift basket to be raffled off. All proceeds from the raffle were donated for breast cancer research.
The Andover Public Library also hosted its crazy hat contest in conjunction with the festival. Hill said everyone involved had a lot of fun.
