One flown after dump truck collides with pick-up truck By STACY MILLBERG - Staff Writer - smillberg@starbeacon.com Star Beacon CHERRY VALLEY TOWNSHIP — A 71-year-old Conneaut man is in intensive care at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown after his pick-up truck collided with a dump truck Friday morning.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Pymatuning Ambulance Service personnel responded to the crash just before 10 a.m. at the intersection of Route 193 and Route 6, which caused the intersection to be closed for more than an hour. Mark R. Heisler, 57, of Chardon, was westbound on Route 6, driving a Mack dump truck when James B. Dalrymple, who was southbound on Route 193, failed to yield at the flashing traffic signal and was struck by Heisler, OHP reports. Dalrymple’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side door, trapping him inside. Wayne Township Fire Department personnel extricated him from the vehicle. Dalrymple was unconscious when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, but eventually woke up and told paramedics he was in pain, said Tom Lucas, paramedic with PAS. “We immediately requested a medical helicopter and landed it right next to the road,” he said. Dalrymple sustained abdominal trauma, possible head trauma and a possible lacerated liver, Lucas said. “We were mostly concerned about the abdominal trauma,” he said. Dalrymple was flown from the scene to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he remained in intensive care Friday afternoon. The extent of his injuries is unknown. Dalrymple was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, OHP reports. A female passenger in Dalrymple’s vehicle was also transported by PAS to Andover Clinic for minor injuries. She was treated and released, Lucas said. The crash is under investigation by OHP. No further information was available.
