Sewer bills tacked onto GOTL taxes

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE — Despite a mass mailing informing them of impending property assessments, 22 village residents will have their delinquent sewer bills tacked onto their taxes, village administrator James Hockaday said.
The 22 residents, who owe as much as $370 to as little as $70.66, will now pay an additional $100 assessment fee, village fiscal officer Kimberly McKinley said.
The total owned to the village in unpaid sewer bills is $4,003.47, McKinley reported during Monday’s regular council meeting.
“I find it interesting that the village has whittled the amount of delinquent sewer bills down from $19,000 several years ago to $10,000 and now to just $4,000,” Councilman Don Woodward said. “I think people have finally figured out to pay their bills before it becomes an assessment.”
There is no escaping the assessment fee now, Woodward said, as the Oct. 1 deadline has come and gone.
“Everyone on this list was notified by mail,” Woodward said.

n Fire Chief Tim Mills and his wife welcomed son Cooper James Mills last week. Cooper was 10 pounds, 15 ounces and 22 inches long at birth.
n Council passed a resolution in support of the Geneva Union Cemeteries Levy, on the ballot Nov. 3. This .5 mill renewal levy will not increase taxes.
