GENEVA — Two Geneva teenagers claim they don’t own the car they were driving early Sunday morning, or the marijuana cigarette police found in the vehicle.
The 16-year old and 17-year-old were driving out of their lane at 4 a.m. when police pulled them over for a curfew violation, police reports show.
During the traffic stop in the Circle K parking lot, the officer recognized the smell of raw, unsmoked marijuana coming from the vehicle, police reports show.
The teenagers were placed into police cruisers as officers searched the car and found a package of cigarettes and one hand-rolled marijuana cigarette on the floorboard of the vehicle in plain sight, police reports show.
The teenagers claim they were driving someone else’s car and don’t own the drugs, police say.
Both were cited for minor misdemeanor curfew violations and possession of marijuana. One was cited for underage tobacco, police reports show.
In an unrelated incident, a Geneva officer recognized a 17-year-old who was not allowed out of his house, Saturday.
The boy was walking down Chestnut Street when the officers stopped him. The boy consented to a personal search, where the officer found a cigarette and cellophane containing a small amount of marijuana.
The boy was cited with minor misdemeanor drug abuse and underage tobacco violations.
