Kingsville neighbors By MARK TODD - Staff Writer - mtodd@starbeacon.com Star Beacon NORTH KINGSVILLE — Several upset Fairview Drive residents told North Kingsville Council Wednesday a neighbor’s faulty septic system is a health hazard and nuisance.
“We haven’t been able to eat outside once this summer,” said Michael Lemmo, 6948 Fairview. At issue is a property on the street with a broken septic system. The tank is apparently cracked, because black goo sometime seeps to the surface, council was told. “It’s absolutely disgusting,” said Pam Lemmo. The problem has existed for three years and the property has been the subject of legal action, neighbors said. Tom Peters, North Kingsville’s road superintendent and zoning inspector, said he has contacted the Ashtabula County Health Department, which in turn is dealing with the county prosecutor’s office on the matter. A lot of time was spent tracking down the owner of the property, Peters said. Village officials urged the angry residents contact the health department for updates on the situation. Later, council got an earful from long-time Village Green Campgrounds patrons unhappy with the facility’s management. The campers say they are tired of selective enforcement of the rules and won’t return for the 2009 season. Mayor Terry McConnell asked the campers to put their concerns in writing to assist any investigation.
