Christmas already? Popular annual run starts at noon Saturday

The leaves on the trees have barely a hint of orange and yellow, but the Ashtabula-based Concerned Motorcycle Riders of Ohio group is getting ready for a fun-filled Christmas.
CMRO, which is coupled with American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE), will host the annual toy run Saturday at Harassments on North Market Street in Jefferson at noon, CMRO/ABATE President Ed Soden said.
The run, which costs $10 or a new toy of an equivalent or greater value, will benefit Holiday Angels Helping Others (HALO).
HALO, which evolved from the Share Your Christmas Program, is coordinated by Catholic Charities as a collaborative effort among several Ashtabula County agencies. Donations to HALO provide needy families with Christmas gifts and food. Donations also will be given to the Country Neighbor Food Pantry, Birth Care and Home Safe, Soden said.
The run will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. at Harassments in Jefferson. The first bike leaves at noon, and the run will end at Paradise Bay in Rock Creek.
Soden said he expects a good run, rain or shine.
“A lot of our members come out for this run; I mean, they support all our runs, but this one hits a lot of hearts,” he said.
Soden said charities are struggling in hard economic times.
“We have been holding this run for 23 years,” he said, “but the charities really need the help this year.”
Nonperishable food items also will be collected.
