Conneaut gets $300,000 grant for streets, sewers County gets similar award for Rock Creek work By MARK TODD - Staff Writer - mtodd@starbeacon.com Star Beacon CONNEAUT — A $300,000 state grant will help make infrastructure repairs above and below ground within a Conneaut neighborhood, officials said.
An identical award from the Ohio Department of Development’s Neighborhood Revitalization program was given Ashtabula County to do water and street work in Rock Creek. Conneaut found success on its third attempt to secure the funding, said Finance Director and interim City Manager John Williams. “We’ve been waiting for this one,” he said. “It’s a very competitive grant.” The city will use the money to repair sections of sanitary and storm sewers, install fire hydrants and water line hookups and pave streets in an area that includes Hayward Avenue and Grant and Ackerman streets, Williams said. The state money will supplement Conneaut’s street improvement funds, he said. The county’s $300,000 grant will help install streets, sidewalks, storm drainage, grinder pumps and a new water tower in Rock Creek, according to a statement from State Rep. Deborah Newcomb, D-Conneaut. Conneaut and Ashtabula County were among only 10 local governments to receive money under the grant program, Newcomb said.
