ROME TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a small barn on Dodgeville Road late Monday night, and firefighters from three departments worked to extinguish the blaze.
Rome Township Volunteer firefighters received a report of the blaze at about 11:30 p.m. Twelve firefighters from Rome, Dorset and Jefferson volunteer fire departments responded to the call at 1250 Dodgeville Road, said Rome Fire Chief Ed Koziol.
The 28-foot by 40-foot barn was involved fully when the neighbor called to report it. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control and about 4,500 gallons of water to extinguish it, he said.
The barn was owned by Britton Farms and was the only structure on the property.
“Years ago, there was a home on the property, but the previous owners removed it,” Koziol said.
The barn was not used for anything in particular but housed a few old vehicles.
“They were certainly not drivable,” he said. “They have been in there for several years.”
Koziol said firefighters were on the scene until about 1:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Koziol estimates damages to be about $6,000, including the structure and contents of the barn.
South Central Ambulance District personnel also responded to the fire.
