ASHTABULA — A boyfriend grabbing another woman’s behind led to a vehicular assault early Saturday on Bridge Street, according to Ashtabula Police Department reports.
The victim, a 26-year-old Ashtabula woman, told police she and her 29-year-old sister were patronizing the L.A. Cafe, police said.
Early Saturday morning, the 26-year-old saw the older sister’s boyfriend grope another woman’s behind. The younger sister confronted the boyfriend and demanded he apologize to her sister, his girlfriend, police said.
An altercation involving the sisters and the boyfriend ensued, and the sisters took their argument outside to the bar’s parking lot, the police report said.
The older sister then pushed her sibling down in front of her car, the report said. The younger sister said she was temporarily incapacitated on the ground while her sister got into the car, started the engine, put it into drive and ran over her leg with the vehicle, the police report said.
The 26-year-old sister said she was stunned, police said.
“She then went into the bar and had another drink to calm down,” detective Sgt. Joseph Cellitti said. “Then, she went to Ashtabula County Medical Center for treatment.”
Emergency room personnel called city police at 4:10 a.m. to report a woman who said she was hit by a car on Bridge Street, the report said.
The younger sister signed a domestic-violence form at the emergency room, Cellitti said.
The names of the people involved in the altercation are being withheld pending their arraignments if the case goes forward and the older sister is charged with aggravated vehicular assault, Cellitti said. That judgment will be made by the city solicitor, police said.
