Three local women sit with Obama family By MARGIE TRAX PAGE - Staff Writer - mtrax@starbeacon.com Star Beacon Two hundred political volunteers were selected by vote Thursday afternoon to sit with Sen. Barack Obama’s family during his acceptance speech.
Ashtabula residents Kim Whitcroft-Parker and Peggy Wilkinson, along with fellow Ohio Democratic Women’s Caucus co-founder Jan Roller, were chosen to sit with the Obama family at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. “We are thrilled,” Wilkinson said via telephone. “We just found out that we went from sitting in section 527 to the floor of the stadium.” Wilkinson said Obama is working toward “a real grassroots campaign” and made the decision to surround his family with dedicated campaign volunteers instead of dignitaries and politicians. “This is amazing, just amazing. This has been an amazing week,” Wilkinson said. “We are so honored.” The ladies spent the day watching concerts by Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder and Will.i.am. Speakers including Al Gore also took the stage.
