ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Voted Best Country Band in northeast Ohio by fans, Tony Rio and Relentless will headline this year’s Lake Shore Park Rib Burn-Off, organizers said Wednesday.
The band is scheduled to go on stage at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at the main pavilion. The entertainment is free, with nine national and local barbecue rib vendors booked for this year’s burn-off.
Originally from Akron, Tony Rio and Relentless have been playing clubs, fairs and concerts for the past 10 years. The group’s original songs are starting to get airplay on local radio stations. “Girl of My Dreams” is in regular rotation zzzzzzon country radio stations in the Cleveland area, according to the band’s Web site.
“They opened for Kenny Chesney,” said Lori Zebrasky, administrative assistant at Lake Shore Park. “Their playlist includes contemporary country, rock and original music.”
Tony Rio and Relentless also played with Toby Keith, Diamond Rio, Aaron Tippin, Lee Greenwood and Wynonna.
The sixth annual Rib Burn-Off, set for Sept. 19-21, also will feature several additional concessions, more musical entertainment, a car show and vendors selling Lake Shore Park souvenirs. There is no admission fee.
Zebrasky said a lot goes into planning the event.
“We are just hoping it doesn’t rain,” she said. “We are really hoping for sunshine.”
Newcomers to the park will discover the park’s fenced-in playground, waterfowl ponds, horseshoe pits, bocce courts and well-groomed grounds.
