ASHTABULA — As many as 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. While Alzheimer’s has no current cure, treatments for symptoms, combined with the right services and support, can make life better for the millions of Americans living with Alzheimer’s. In conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, ACMC will host an Alzheimer’s Series during the month of September. Three sessions will be held at 6 p.m. in the ACMC Solarium on the fifth floor of the hospital, each featuring a specific topic to shed light on this often confusing condition.
The first session on Tuesday will be presented by Psychiatrist Daniel Keaton, MD, Dr. Keaton will provide crucial information on understanding memory loss. An open question and answer period addressing such topics as symptoms, assessment, medication, research and tips will be held.
Legal and financial planning will be the topics of the second session held on Sept. 9. A presentation by an attorney specializing in Elder law has been designed to answer your legal and economic questions such as coverage and Medicaid.
Sept. 1 will feature an interactive presentation by Alzheimer’s Association representative Maureen Ordman-Fike who will cover practical questions on everything from care giving to strategies for taking care of a family member or friend who has Alzheimer’s. A variety of tips and tools for day to day living with someone who has progressive memory loss will also be provided.
