County airport board settles with former FBO By DORIS COOK - Staff Writer Star Beacon DENMARK TOWNSHIP — Following months of mediation with the Erie Management Group officials, Ashtabula County Airport Authority board has settled its dispute with the former fixed base operators.
The board, through its attorneys, Andrews and Pontius LLC of Ashtabula, and County Prosecutor Thomas Sartini, wound up getting $110,000, said David Price, ACAA board president. “We got the additional $50,000 in compensation plus $30,000 EMG paid for the last three months of rent, and $30,000 worth of fuel left when they left,” Price said. EMG’s subsidiary, Lakeside Aviation, had signed on as the fixed base operator in 2006, then walked away from the lease on Oct. 1, 2007. Faced once again with taking over the management of the airport, the board sought to settle monetary claims involved with the early termination of the FBO lease agreement. “It was better to mediate a settlement. We could have faced years before a lawsuit would come up in court. There would be more added costs, so to mediate was a better choice,” Price said. Since the FBO lease was terminated, Lakeside Aviation was reportedly bankrupt and dissolved by EMG officials, Price said.
