Two killed in separate Saturday morning crashes

Two individuals were killed in separate crashes Saturday in Cherry Valley Township and Newbury Township.

Albert M. Parrish, 49, of Cherry Valley was eastbound on Mill Road when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the right side of the roadway. Parrish then over-corrected back onto the road, when off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Parrish was not wearing his seat belt, the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Saybrook Post.

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department, Pymatuning Ambulance System and Dorset Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid to OHP.

Almost exactly two hours later, troopers from OHP’s Chardon Post responded to the intersection of Route 44 and Music Street in Newbury Township for a two vehicle crash.

Miles Coburn, 58, of Cleveland Heights was riding his bicycle northbound on Route 44 when he attempted to make a left turn onto Music Street. Coburn crossed the center line and was struck by a 2002 Dodge Durango, driven by Robert Schill, 50, of Burton, according to OHP.

Coburn was flown by medical helicopter to Cleveland’s MetroHealth Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was wearing a bike helmet at the time of the crash. Schill was not injured in the crash, according to OHP.

Both accidents are being investigated by OHP.
