GENEVA - - An Ashtabula woman spilled the beans on an ex-boyfriend Monday after she was caught stealing the ingredients for methamphetamine.
Police allege Melissa Hassett, 31, tried to walk out of the Geneva Giant Eagle store with a cold compress and five packages of matches. When approached by police officers, Hassett cried and pointed the finger at her former significant other and said she was taking the stolen items to her ex-boyfriend so he could use them to make meth, police reports show.
Hassett also had enough money on her to pay for the items, but told officers she stole because, "Everyone knows what the items are for," police reports show.
Officers also seized the drug suphedrine from Hassett, which is used to make meth, police reports show.
In statements to police, Hassett alleges her ex-boyfriend recently left a Lake County motel because he was caught cooking meth.
While in police custody, Hassett discussed her past relationship, telling officers her ex-boyfriend was a, "Meth user turned Meth cook," police say.
Hassett is charged with theft and illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, Ashtabula County Court records show.
