COLEBROOK TOWNSHIP — “Nashville Star” finalist Laura Fedor is making her way to Ashtabula County Aug. 23 to perform at Colebrook Township’s annual Homecoming celebration.

Fedor, 18, of Willoughby, appeared with her best friend, Sophie Zalokar, 16, of Willoughby, in the sixth season of NBC’s “Nashville Star.” The duo were the seventh finalists eliminated from the show, which is similar to Fox’s “American Idol” but more country.

“We’re very excited to have Laura perform in Colebrook,” said Tim Craig, homecoming committee member. “She is a very talented young lady.”

Fedor, a 2008 Willoughby South High School graduate, has been singing throughout the greater part of her life. She is a member of the Cleveland Singing Angels group and has performed at Cleveland Cavaliers games, Lake Erie Monster games and Lake County Captains games. She also has performed for President Bush’s 2006 Pageant of Peace, according to www.laurafedor.com.

Fedor was the 2007 winner of the Chardon Idol competition and was named second runner-up in the Cleveland Rising Star Competition. Fedor and Zalokar were admitted to “Nashville Star,” Fedor was offered a spot as a solo artist on the TV show “America’s Got Talent.” The timelines of both shows would not permit her to do both, so she chose to take the spot with “Nashville Star,” hoping for better exposure, according to the Web site.

Fedor will perform at 11:30 a.m. at Colebrook Township Park. The Homecoming celebration will kick off at 8 a.m. with a co-ed softball tournament, which will run throughout the day. At 10:30 a.m., the parade will make its way through town. Prizes will be awarded for best float, best riding horse, best decorated bike, best four-wheeler, best children’s pets, best children’s costume, oldest vehicle, oldest tractor, couple married the longest, couple most recently married and former resident coming the greatest distance for the day.

At 11 a.m., an ox roast will be held in the Shelter House, and the Grand Valley High School cheerleaders will be painting faces at 11:30 a.m. Magician Jim Hathy will perform at 12:30 p.m., and a horseshoe and cornhole tournament will take place at 1 p.m. At 2:15 p.m., the tot contest will take place, followed by bingo at 2:30. The celebration will conclude after the drawings at 4 p.m.
